Text Box: USD 426 is implementing a 1:1 laptop program for 9-12 students.
*Students must comply with the district technology acceptable use policy.
*$50 accidental insurance must be paid.  The  accidental insurance only covers one accident /12 month period.  The student is responsible for  uncovered damage, loss or theft.
*The laptop must be returned at the end of the year.

Text Box: 1. Maintenance, software, and hardware configurations are only made by the district technology coordinator.
2. Do not close the laptop with the power on.  The laptop will over heat and it will melt.  Moving the laptop with the power on will result in hard drive failures.
3. Only transport the laptop in an approved  backpack.
4. Only clean the screen with special screen cleaning wipes.  Do not spray cleaner on the screen.  Do not use glass cleaner.
5. Power Cords:  Unplug the cord properly—not by yanking on it.  Wrap the cord up loosely.
6. Don’t eat or drink near the laptop.
7. Do not write or carve on the laptop.
8. Do not leave items on the laptop and close it.
9. Do not install or download any unauthorized programs software.  Do not uninstall any  existing software installed by the district coordinator.
10. Battery Care:  Only charge the battery when the life is down to 10-15%.

Text Box: 3.     Illegal Activities:
 a. You will not attempt to gain unauthorized access to the network or internet or to any other computer system.  This includes attempting to log in with another log in/password through another users account.
 b. You will not download and spread viruses, worms, or other programs which disrupt the computer operation.
 c. You will not use the network or internet to engage in illegal activities.
 d. You will not use the network or internet to engage in electronic cheating of any form, including, but not limited to, creating files with answers to test or quizzes, sharing files or assignments, copying documents.
4. System Security:
 a. You are responsible for your account and should take all reasonable precautions to prevent others from accessing your account.  Under no conditions do you provide your password with another user.
 b. Immediately notify the technology coordinator if you identify a security issue.  Do not go looking for security problems, because this may be construed as an illegal attempt to gain access.
 c. Installed programs need to be legal and appropriate.
5. Inappropriate language, Use, & Access to Materials:
 a. You will not use obscene, profane, vulgar, rude, threatening, or disrespectful language on the network or internet.
 b. You will not post information that could cause damage or danger to yourself or others.
 c. You will not harass another person  or knowingly post false or defamatory information about another person or organization.
 d. You will not access material that is profane or obscene (ex. porn), that advocates illegal acts, or that advocates violence or discrimination toward other people.
6. Limitations of Resources:
 a. The network or internet should only be used for legal and appropriate activities.
 b. You are not allowed to download large files.  The technology coordinator has the right to delete files from personal folders.
 c. You are only allowed to save files, documents, images, etc. for educational use.
7. Plagiarism and Copyright Infringement:
 a. You will not plagiarize—taking ideas or writings of others and present them as if they were yours.
 b. You will respect the right of copyright owners. Copyright infringement occurs when you inappropriately reproduce the work that is protected by copyright.

Text Box: Violations

Text Box: The student needs to realize access to the technology is a privilege.  Losing privileges will affect the completion of assignments in ALL classes.  In addition to losing technology privileges, some situations may also have consequences pertaining to the PVHS Discipline Policy.
1st Violation—Removal of technology privileges for one week.
2nd Violation—Removal of technology privileges for one month.
3rd Violation—Permanent removal of technology.  NO REFUND.
Classroom teachers may have own classroom usage guidelines and consequences—lack of respect for classroom guidelines could result in laptop removal.

Text Box: The district is committed to providing the latest technology for legal and appropriate usage.  Students must learn the skills of safe, responsible, and appropriate use of the Internet.  The district has several devices and subscriptions to help keep the technology environment safer.
*A filter is in place for school and home to block access to Internet sites that are not in accordance with the policies of the district. 
* Total Traffic Control is installed to filter, monitor and report all usage at school and home.
The school has taken measures to keep your child safe; however, we encourage parents:
*To discuss the responsibilities and expectations of having access to the internet with their child.
*Set guidelines for laptop usage at home.
*Be aware of the child’s on-line activities.

 a. You are discourage to post personal contact information about yourself or other people.  Personal contact includes your address,         telephone, school address etc.
 b. Just as we “don’t talk to strangers” in person, you should not “talk to strangers” online.
 c. Visit http://www.isafe.org for tips on internet safety.
2.      Respect for Technology:
 a. Access to the districts hardware, software, network access and internet access is a privilege.  Respect the Technology.

Text Box: All activities on this system and network may be monitored,         intercepted, recorded, read, copied, captured in any manner and    disclosed in any manner, by authorized personnel.  THERE IS NO RIGHT TO PRIVACY IN THIS SYSTEM.  System personnel may give to law enforcement officials any potential evidence of crime found on USD 426 computer systems.  USE OF THIS SYSTEM BY ANY USER, AUTHORIZED OR UNAUTHORIZED, CONSTITUTES CONSENT TO THIS MONITORING, INTERCEPTION, RECORDING, READING, COPYING, OR CAPTURING AND DISCLOSURE.  Report any unauthorized use to an administrator.
